So, years ago I broke this down with all 3rd party tech (which includes things like the encoders for renders, which is why Express now users a different render library from Pro) and estimated that about $150 of any Hitfilm Pro sale went to other vendors.

It's a reasonable assumption that when FXHOME puts Hitfilm on sale Boris STILL gets the full $49. Since the Hitfilm version is 1/6th the cost of what everyone else pays it's a good assumption that FXHOME makes NOTHING from that sale. A few years ago I discussed on this forum how third-party tech affects Hitfilm pricing, using the Express add-ons as a "logical start." For example Boris sells its 3D text unit for $299. Wot youse peeps you've hit something important here. Sure, HitFilm can do some stuff well, but it can't edit or grade at a professional level and general performance is the slowest of any NLE/FX package I've used. I'm wondering how many other users are thinking it's a bit steep. Affinity (Serif) seem to get by with charging under AU$80.00 for each of their perpetual-licence apps - that's so cheap there's not even a reason to have a U/G price. Even a Vegas Pro U/G is US$199.00.Īt the moment a 12 month extension is on sale for US$195.44 - that's still AU$279.99 (wholesale rate) likely close to AU$300 in practice.Īt the very least it'd be nice to offer purchasing in my local currency (Australian $) so I know what the real cost will be, but overall I think the U/G's are uncompetitively priced. When I first bought HitFilm it came with Ignite Pro so I could at least use the FX in my other apps - that'd go some way to justifying the cost.
I don't like the rental model but if one ends up renewing HitFilm every year that's half the cost of a CC subscription for a fraction of the functionality and performance. An Adobe CC subscription with all the fruit cost me AU$897.20 for a year's rental.

This is getting a bit much for me, especially as I use Hitfilm only a few times a year and already have an Adobe CC subscription and Resolve 16 (free version, but about to buy the full Studio app).Ī 12 month renewal of my HitFilm Pro licence costs US$279.20, that's AU$400.07 at wholesale exchange rates (xe.com) as at 07-July-2020, which probably ends up being around AU$420-440.īy way of comparison, a full version of Resolve (with Fusion) is around AU$520.00, and I haven't seen them charge for updates for as long as I've been using the freebie version. This was never supposed to happen, as it lowers the price of the software down to a level where FXhome actually loses out. Rather than applying just the largest discount to your purchase (as is always intended), our database actually stacked these discounts on top of one another, giving you a very large discount.
At the time of your purchase in 2019, you were eligible for two separate discounts (on top of your normal upgrade discount).
Lucky for you (and not so lucky for us), it appears you actually stumbled across a bug in our database.
